Chictini.com

Just learned about Chictini.com from this blog post–it’s a website that relies on voting by  members and viewers (they either click Chic or Weak next to the item you post). Interesting……chic

Tips for a TwitPitch

twitter-heart2One of my favourite blogs, PR Couture, posted this REALLY really helpful post, providing 5 tips on how to successfully pitch using Twitter. Check it out at:  http://www.prcouture.com/2009/04/14/marie-claires-twitter-strategy-and-fashion-pr-pitch-tips/

My new FAV nailpolish

Read about this colour in InStyle–a pretty, neutral light pink that looks chic and doesn’t show chips. Low maintenance, fabulous!essie1

PR Gal’s Top 4 Makeup Products!

c-thru

As a total makeup junkie, these are the  4 things that are staples in my makeup bag. LOVE them! PR Gal recommends all!

MAC Lipglass in C-Thru–a pale, really natural colour that looks good on ANYONE, no matter your skin tone.

Maybelline Colossal Mascara–has collagen, creates great volume. Once on, let dry for a few seconds, then use your fingertip to gently shape/curve the lashes–this stuff holds it! Get tons of compliments when I wear it!

L’Oreal Infalliable Foundation: I am a big fan of L’Oreal products. This stuff honestly stays on, through workouts, long days, everything. A tad thick, so I like to mix a bit of moisturizer in when applying.

L’Oreal Liquid Liner: I love a good (minimal) cat-eye, and this liner is great for creating a nice, thin line.

How PR is using Twitter to add a ‘human touch’

Interesting article on how Twitter allows PR to bring a ‘human touch’ to communication strategies. Good-bye disconntwitterected, jargon-packed messaging. Post: http://www.prweekus.com/How-Twitter-saved-public-relations-from-PR/article/130530/

Publicists blogging/Twittering for celebrity clients (?)

paris-hilton1Check out this post: so many celebrities further solidify negative reputations via their personal blogs, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Will more celebs start hiring PR professionals to act as their social-media gatekeepers (i.e. having a publicist blog/Twitter FOR them?) Now THERE’S an interesting job I wouldn’t mind taking a stab at! Lindsay Loahn…call me. Blog:  http://gawker.com/5188587/how-twitter-saved-the-celebrity-pr

PR Gal’s First Post….

martinigirl1Until about a week ago, I was a Twitter virgin. I won’t lie, I had some pre-conceived notions about this new online social networking tool (another ‘flash in the pan’ social networking website that no one will care about in 6 months).

However, after only a few days, I was pretty hooked. To be honest, I am still struggling with the collision of personal and professional on Twitter; my colleagues use it for client promotion purposes, tracking reporters etc., while others use if for purely personal/social reasons, and some both. Either way, I have approached with caution–rarely ‘tweeting’, but constantly staying up to date on others ‘tweets’. I am at the same time incredibly up to date and incredibly overwhelmed.

Back to the point: I started following a fashion-PR blog, and soon after became very familiar with the blog itself. An exciting mixture of posts, podcasts, discussions and links pertaining to PR and fashion (two of my favourite things!) I found the blog addictive. It inspired me to start “PR and Pastimes”, as PR Gal. I view this blog as an outlet for me to discuss PR as I experience it day-to-day in my early career–thoughts, lessons learned, observations etc. In addition, I want to share my thoughts on my pastimes, which arent really ‘pastimes’ so much as the very things that make my life exciting: fashion, theatre, nightlife, restaurants, cooking, workouts….anything that inspires me.

Bear with me, I am new at this, and am not sure where this blog will lead. These are only my initial intentions, which are sure to shift over time.

Cheers!
